The full story

From Guatemala City
to global AI products.

I'm Susana Chinchilla, a Senior Lead Product Designer with 5+ years at IBM shipping enterprise AI experiences, design systems, and product-led growth at scale. This is the full arc.

My journey

Every step
was intentional.

From working full-time to pay my own tuition to leading design for IBM's flagship AI product.

Origin
Roots

Guatemala City

Grew up in Guatemala. My parents made education the family's top priority. I took that seriously, working full-time to pay my own tuition through both degrees.

2019
Education

BFA Graphic Design · Purchase College, NY · Magna Cum Laude · 3.8 GPA

Discovered UX through my senior project, Life Beyond Textiles ↗, a charity that provided 13 kids in Guatemala with scholarships, school supplies, and uniforms. That's when I knew design could create real impact.

2019–2021
Education

MA UX Design · NYIT · 4.0 GPA · Summa Cum Laude

Completed my Master's while working full-time. Graduated with a job at IBM already lined up.

2020
IBM

Intern · UX Researcher

First role at IBM. Started with research, understanding users before touching a single design.

2020–2021
IBM

Co-op · UX Designer

Extended into a co-op. Built my design foundations at enterprise scale while finishing my Master's simultaneously.

Built Guat · It runs on its own.

Designed, built, and launched Guat, an AI-powered workforce training platform helping hospitality and service businesses reduce communication gaps on their frontline teams. Workers learn job-specific English through audio so they can stay focused on the job, not the language barrier. Built the entire tech stack, automated the delivery pipeline, formed the LLC, and filed a provisional patent. Ran a 39-person pilot: 92% phrase retention, 4.8/5 confidence impact. The platform now runs autonomously. I'm ready to bring everything I've learned as a founder, builder, and designer back into my next senior design role.

Guat is not a side project. It's a fully automated, AI-powered platform that proved its model in a 39-person pilot and keeps running on its own.

What I built

Full stack, provisional patent, LLC

Designed the product, built the tech stack, automated the entire delivery pipeline, formed the LLC, and filed a provisional patent. Leveraged AI at every layer, from content generation to user delivery.
